Google for Entrepreneurs announced today its partnership with HUBBA, Thailand’s longest-running, largest co-working space.

As Google for Entrepreneurs’ first tech hub partner in the kingdom, HUBBA will benefit from financial support from the California-based search giant and its network of co-working spaces and community programmes across 135 countries.

"We’re so inspired by the incredible entrepreneurs and startups here in Thailand," said Michael Kim, Google for Entrepreneurs APAC Partnership Lead, in a statement. "Google for Entrepreneurs is focused on providing the best of Google's resources to our global partner network and we’re thrilled to collaborate with HUBBA’s members."

"We’re scaling up our mission to become an entrepreneurship success platform," explained Amarit Charoenphan, founder and CEO of HUBBA, who was a speaker at this year’s inaugural Asia Real Estate Summit. "We will offer our existing resources and support, and Google will supplement that with the global brand, access to their 50 other hubs that they work with and all their tools, equipment, training and devices."

The announcement comes as the commercial property sector reckons with paradigm shifts in attitudes towards work and office life.

"Property developers realise that a lot of things that they’ve been doing are not working any more,” Amarit explains. “The young generation in Thailand now are tech-savvy, they'reir highly financially literate, and they’re seeing that life can be better without ownership. Fewer people want to be tied to a traditional 2-3 year office lease.”

HUBBA is credited for building Thailand’s strongest startup network. From its beginnings in a two-storey house in Ekkamai district in Bangkok, HUBBA has grown into three co-working hubs across the city, with a wide array of services including online digital platform (HUBBA connect) workshops and community activities.

"Amarit and his team are working to transform the country’s economy and are building its tech-forward workforce,” said Ben King, country Director of Google Thailand. “We’re proud to support HUBBA’s mission and Thailand’s digital-first future.”

Large property firms in Thailand are set to benefit from the HUBBA-Google collaboration. As Amarit explained, "for most property companies, innovation doesn’t happen in-house. While they always want to appear innovative, many have always followed a traditional business model, so opening up to tech is a really big shift.”

The solution lies in partnerships between corporates and start-ups, and HUBBA, alongside Google for Entrepreneurs, hopes to be able to matchmake in this respect.

"It’s really going to be a magical thing when both corporates and entrepreneurs can work together," Amarit said. "We’ve started as a co-working space, but we’ve realized that the greatest asset of a community is the people. The greatest thing that comes out of co-working spaces is the ideas that turn into great businesses. Great businesses go and disrupt industries and solve big problems.”
