US-based Costco has bought a 14 hectare site in western Sydney’s Oakdale Industrial Estate to develop its national distribution centre, which will be the biggest facility in Australia.

The NSW government approved the warehouse in Kemps Creek, owned by Goodman Group,  with the project expected to generate around 1000 jobs.

The 35,000 sqm site will serve Costco’s 9 current Australian warehouses, and three smaller sites currently under construction, with phase 1 completion scheduled for 2019 and phase 2 within five years.

Last year, Costco opened a 13,575 sqm store in Marsden Park, at the Sydney Business Park and began construction of a $40 million Epping Costco in conjunction with Pacific Epping Shopping Centre, in Melbourne.
