Charities – like lots of businesses – have been suffering in the current economic climate, so when Sydney entrepreneur Dr Jerry Schwartz decided to offer charities a "first in a millennium" fundraising opportunity, it wasn't surprising he was bowled over in the rush to accept. 

The Sydney hotel mogul, and Australia's largest private hotel owner, Dr Jerry surprised many pundits when he departed from his tried and true formula of buying established hotels and rebirthing them by securing the five-star hotel being built by Lendlease, adjacent to the International Convention Centre, which is to be launched as a Sofitel in October.
