In 2002, Mercedes-Benz's parent company, Daimler, resurrected Maybach, a luxury-car brand that had been dormant since World War II. More recently, Mercedes-Benz launched the Mercedes-Maybach S600, a car that by its name and purpose evokes the stately Type 600 sedan that the company produced from 1963 to 1981 and the Maybachs of recent and distant pasts. Compared to the S-Class sedans, which previously held rank as Mercedes-Benz's most exclusive and prestigious models, the S600, at just under 18 feet long, is 8.2 inches longer and offers nearly 6 inches of additional legroom for rear-seat passengers. Passenger comfort extends beyond additional legroom, however. The S600's rear seats are equipped with power-actuated calf supports and a feature that replicates a hot-stone massage. The seats also recline to a 43-degree angle. An optional center console includes a refrigerator, Champagne flutes, and fold-out tables. The console also has cup holders that can heat or cool beverages. Perks also exist for the driver. The S600 is powered by Mercedes-Benz's smooth-running 6-liter V-12 biturbo engine, and despite its longer wheelbase, the sedan handles as well as the S-Class. The S600 is also equipped with Magic Body Control, which uses forward-facing cameras to scan the road ahead and then adjust the active suspension accordingly to counteract uneven surfaces.
